Atlantic Asbestos Solutions has established a unique partnership with a dedicated
UKAS accredited asbestos analysis laboratory. Competent experienced personnel holding
All analysis will be carried out in strict accordance with the HSE document HSG 248 “The Analyst Guide”. Analysis is carried out using polarised optical light microscopy on small samples of materials. This technique is fast, inexpensive, and reliable and is usually sufficient to identify the range of asbestos fibre types that occur in building materials and other contaminated materials.
All asbestos fibres are identified by their refractive index, which is a unique optical property dependent on the crystalline structure of the asbestos fibre. By using fully trained, competent, experienced laboratory staff this technique has a sensitivity of detection of the order of 1 ppm by mass.
In the majority of cases, undisturbed asbestos products present little risk to health. However, when this material has to be removed you are ultimately responsible for the licensed ‘specialist’ you employ.
